2025 LANDCARE PROJECT FUND The Shire of Narrogin is pleased to announce the 2025 Landcare Project Fund. The Fund provides financial assistance to rural property owners to purchase native plants for land rehabilitation on their property.

The Shire of Narrogin wholeheartedly supports the Nationals WA's pledge to implement a comprehensive State Planning Policy for renewable energy projects. This policy emphasises community consultation, benefit-sharing, and responsible project management—principles that resonate deeply with the Shire’s values and priorities.

The Shire of Narrogin is seeking public comment on a proposed Solar Energy Generation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development at the corner of Contine Road, Wanerie Road, and Great Southern Highway. This proposal will be assessed by a Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP).

This vibrant and meaningful artwork, spearheaded by the Townscape Advisory Committee, stands as a tribute to the resilience, culture, and community spirit of Narrogin, particularly in the aftermath of the 2022 bushfires.

The Annual General Meeting of Electors of the Shire of Narrogin will be held on Wednesday 5 February 2025 in the Shire’s Administration Centre Council Chambers, 89 Earl Street Narrogin, commencing 5:30pm and the public are welcome to attend.

Please be advised that the Shire of Narrogin’s Administration Office, Works Depot, Library and Jessie House (Office for Homecare) will be closed during the upcoming Christmas period from 2:30pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 until reopening at 8.30 am on Thursday 2 January 2025.

The Shire of Narrogin has announced that local heritage champion Morrie Russell has received a prestigious commendation during the 2024 WA Heritage Awards. Held at the Walyalup Civic Centre in Fremantle, on Friday 29 November 2024, the awards celebrated the exceptional contributions of Western Australians to heritage conservation and promotion.

The Shire of Narrogin and its neighbours are the site of potential renewable energy developments (Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage) because of the proximity to power infrastructure and distribution networks in Collie as the State seeks to meet its renewable energy targets with cessation of coal by 2030. Several wind farm projects have been announced in the Shire, with dedicated or additional solar, and Battery Storage (BESS) components, with more potentially into the future.

The Shire of Narrogin is pleased to announce the winners of its 2024/25 Early Bird Rates Prize Draw. All ratepayers who paid their rates in full by 8 October 2024 were automatically entered into the draw, with the winners selected by the Shire President using the Shire’s computer automated ‘random prize generator competition’ module.

The Shire of Narrogin is thrilled to announce the arrival of Narrogin’s beloved PM706 locomotive back to its forever home at the Historic Goods Shed. The successful return of Pm706 represents the culmination of over 35 years of dedicated community efforts, finally bringing this treasured piece of Narrogin’s history home.

The Shire of Narrogin has declared a Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban, which is effective immediately across the entire Shire of Narrogin due to current weather conditions. This ban is in place until 5:00pm 1/11/2024.

The Narrogin Regional Leisure Centre is set to undergo a stunning transformation, with the entire eastern side of the building being turned into an iconic mural. This ambitious project, proposed by the Townscape Advisory Committee, aims to capture and celebrate the unique culture, character, and spirit of the Narrogin community.

The Shires of Narrogin and Williams are investigating the feasibility of constructing a recreation trail on the disused railway between Narrogin and Williams and the project has entered an important stage with two community consultation sessions to take place in September.

The Shire of Narrogin has adopted its budget for the 2024/25 financial year, committing to a $16.70 million capital expenditure and $32m overall, aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and supporting community well-being. Despite the current economic challenges, including rising construction costs and global supply chain disruptions, the Shire has managed to keep the rate increase to a modest 4%.

Tenders are invited for the supply of two new side tipping trailers for the Shire of Narrogin. Tender documentation can be downloaded from the Shire’s website at www.narrogin.wa.gov.au/documents/request-for-quotes-and-tenders.

The Shire’s biannual Community Chest funding, to a maximum of $2,500 cash or in-kind, for events or projects which benefit the Narrogin community is open to eligible community-based organisations from 15 July 2024 till 31 August 2024.

The Shire of Narrogin has announced the launch of a new, state-of-the-art website for the Narrogin & Dryandra Visitor Centre. This new online platform aims to enhance the promotion of Narrogin and its surrounding areas as a tourism destination. The new website draws significantly upon one developed by dedicated volunteer Doug Sawkins, provided substantial information about the area. Doug's hard work and commitment were invaluable. The Shire President Mr Leigh Ballard noted "We can't thank Doug enough. Our heartfelt thanks go to him for his significant contributions, which laid the foundation for this new development."

Through successful funding from the 2023-24 Community Trail Planning Grants Program, the Shire of Narrogin have secured $9,715 to initiate the Narrogin to Williams Rail Trail Feasibility Study.
