MEDIA RELEASE

NOMINATE YOUR 2025 COMMUNITY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Recognise someone who goes above and beyond.

Citizen of the Year Awards 2025

It’s time to start thinking about who you know who is doing amazing things in our local community!

The Community Citizen of the Year Awards gives us the opportunity to celebrate the positive impact of individuals and groups who are engaged and committed to our local area. Whether they are a nominee or recipient, we can all celebrate their outstanding contribution, because we’re all part of the story.

Recognising local heroes for more than 20 years, the Awards are made up of four categories:

  • Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)
  • Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years)
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)
  • Active Citizenship (for community groups or events)

Nominations can be made for contributions to education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, sports, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that enhances the wellbeing of our community. For the full criteria, visit www.citizenshipawards.com.au/criteria

“This is one of the best ways to say thank you to your peers who have made significant contributions to the well-being of the Narrogin community,” said the Narrogin Shire President Mr. Leigh Ballard. “The Awards allow us to recognise and honour the dedication and impact of these local heroes. Previous recipients have set a high standard, and their achievements continue to inspire others to engage and make a difference.”

New research from Auspire – Australia Day Council WA, which delivers the Awards in partnership with local councils across Western Australia, supports the presence of such community award programs for the social, cultural and economic impact they make.

In a survey of 2024 recipients, 85% of respondents said the Awards encourage active citizenship, with 91% believing that they are a great way to recognise leaders. Furthermore, 86% of respondents agree that the Awards make communities more inclusive.

Nominations for the 2025 Community Citizen of the Year Awards are now open until 31 October 2024 and can be submitted at www.citizenshipawards.com.au/nominate

The Shire of Narrogin is proud to deliver the Community Citizen of the Year Awards, in partnership with Auspire and Joint Patrons His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM Governor of Western Australia, and Mrs Darrilyn Dawson.

The Community Citizen of the Year Awards are proudly supported by Principal Partner the Department of Communities, and Media Partners 9News Perth, 6PR Perth and WA Today.
