DRAFT LOCAL PLANNING POLICY - TREE FARMS AND CARBON FARMING

Notice is hereby given that the Shire of Narrogin has recently accepted the Draft Local Planning Policy on Tree Farms and Carbon Farming.

The purpose of the draft policy is to provide further guidance on the assessment and management of tree farming and carbon farming proposals within the Shire. The policy aims to:

  • Ensure proposals align with Local Planning Scheme No. 3 (LPS3) and relevant State Planning Policies;
  • Manage environmental impacts, bushfire risks, and infrastructure considerations such as traffic and road maintenance;
  • Establish conditions for fire management planning and environmental safeguards; and
  • Clarify the approval process for carbon farming where no specific land use classification currently exists under LPS3.

The policy seeks to ensure that tree farming and carbon farming activities are integrated sustainably with the local environment, infrastructure, and surrounding agricultural land uses.

A copy of the Draft Local Planning Policy can be found below.

Written submissions are invited and should be addressed to the undersigned, to be received before 4:00 pm on Friday 16 May 2025. Your valuable input may be sent in writing or via email.

Following the conclusion of the consultation period, all submissions will be considered, and a report will be presented to Council for determination of the policy, with or without modifications.
