Successful Grant Funding for three Electric Vehicle chargers in Narrogin
The Shire of Narrogin is thrilled to announce the success of a State Government Grant application through the Department of Mines Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS), a significant step forward in bolstering electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure within the region.
The grant, which covers an impressive 50% of the total cost, will enable the Shire to implement essential components of its electric vehicle infrastructure project. These components include:
Supply of a cutting-edge 22kw 3 phase EV charger pedestal, equipped with an NMI PA meter and a 4G modem.
- The professional installation of the EV charger.
- A two-year subscription to facilitation software that will enhance the efficiency and accessibility of the charging system.
While this grant is a significant stride towards a more sustainable future, it's important to note that certain expenses, such as the installation of crash protection bollards, fall outside the grant's coverage.
The Shire Narrogin is particularly excited to unveil the three locations that will benefit from this grant:
- Memorial Park (parking bay on Williams Road): Providing convenient access to EV charging for park visitors and the CBD, with Memorial Park being a popular destination within our community.
- Old Courthouse Museum Car Park: Enhancing the accessibility and eco-friendliness of the Museum and CBD, this location will cater to both locals and tourists alike.
- Narrogin Caravan Park: This installation will be a bonus for travellers seeking EV charging options while exploring the beauty of the region.
Although the Narrogin & Dryandra Visitor Centre (Train Station) was initially considered, regrettably, the power supply to this location couldn't accommodate an EV charger.
Mr Leigh Ballard, Shire President, expressed his enthusiasm about this significant development, stating, "This grant is a testament to our commitment to environmental sustainability and our dedication to providing our community with the infrastructure necessary for the electric vehicle era. We are excited about the positive impact this initiative will have on our community and the environment. It is a step in the right direction towards a greener and more sustainable future and to attract visitors and eco friendly business travellers to our beautiful region."
The Shire of Narrogin looks forward to the successful implementation of this project and its contribution to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious economy and community.
Mr Ballard added, “Users of the facilities will be required to meet the cost of the service each time they ‘plug in’ via an appropriate app. If plugged in for an hour, a 22 kw charger typically adds 100 km rage to a Hybrid or electric vehicle.”
