Australia Day

The Shire of Narrogin hosts a two-day Australia Day celebration, a highlight of our community calendar. The festivities begin with a Family Fun Day, designed to bring local families together for an enjoyable day of activities and entertainment. The celebration continues the next day with a community breakfast, followed by the Citizenship Ceremony and the Citizen of the Year Awards presentation.

This event is one of the most cherished in our community, celebrating our diverse local culture and honouring the achievements of exceptional individuals. It’s a time for everyone to come together and enjoy the festivities that make Australia Day truly special.

Citizen of the Year Awards

Auspire – Australia Day Council WA is the organisation responsible for running the Community Citizen of the Year Awards. These prestigious awards are presented by Local Governments across Western Australia with His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia and Mrs Darrilyn Dawson serving as Joint Patrons of Auspire.

The awards seek to recognise outstanding individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to their local communities during the past year, or those who have given exceptional service over a sustained period.

These contributions can take many forms, including but not limited to education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, employment, sport, arts, environment, social inclusion, or any other area that contributes to the betterment of the community.

We particularly encourage people and groups from diverse backgrounds to consider submitting a nomination.

Nominations open on 1 September and close on 31 October every year with the announcements of the recipients made by each council in or around January of the following year.

Citizenship Ceremonies

Citizenship ceremonies are special events where applicants for citizenship are required to make the Australian Citizenship Pledge. This is the final step in the journey to become an Australian citizen.

The citizenship ceremony is also an important opportunity to officially welcome new citizens as full members of the Australian community. These ceremonies are sometimes performed at community events held on Australia Day.

WE ARE ALL PART OF THE STORY.
