Narrogin to Williams Rail Trail Feasibility Study Underway
The Shires of Narrogin and Williams are excited to announce the commencement of the Narrogin to
Williams Rail Trail Feasibility Study, a significant step toward developing a scenic and recreational trail
for cyclists and walkers along the disused railway corridor between the two towns. This initiative is made
possible through the combined efforts of both Shires, with funding support from the 2023-24 Community
Trail Planning Grants Program, securing $9,715 for the study from the Department of Local
Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC). The total estimated cost of the project is $29,430
with additional in-kind contributions from the two Shire’s.
The feasibility study, led by Mike Maher, Director of Transplan Pty Ltd, and Mike Halliburton Associates,
will evaluate the viability and potential impacts of transforming the disused railway line into a multi-use,
non-motorised trail. Their assessment will include a thorough examination of the railway’s current
condition, including the old formation, bridges, fencing, and other infrastructure, to determine the work
required for the proposed trail.
As part of the study, consultants Mike Halliburton and Mike Maher will be on-site from July 2 to July 4,
assessing the old railway formation. Adjoining landowners will have the opportunity to meet with the
consultants during this early stage to discuss any potential concerns and suggestions.

asset for our communities," said Leigh Ballard, Shire President of Narrogin. "Engaging with landowners
and residents is crucial to ensure the project meets everyone’s needs."
An Open House session will be held later this year for community members to learn more and provide
