Shire of Narrogin Celebrates Australia Day 2025
The Shire of Narrogin celebrated Australia Day 2025 with two days of community-focused events, which embraced Australian values, honoured exceptional contributions, and united residents in a spirit of pride and togetherness.
On Saturday, 25 January 2025, the Family Fun Day at Alby Park provided a vibrant and engaging experience for attendees. The event featured complimentary access to the pool, children’s inflatables, and a wide selection of treats. A community sausage sizzle, generously supported by Narrogin Children & Families, added to the festive atmosphere.
The celebrations continued on Sunday morning, 26 January 2025, with a Community Breakfast held at the Alby Park. Beginning at 7:30 am, the breakfast was followed by a Citizenship Ceremony, where new Australians were officially welcomed into the Narrogin community, symbolising the essence of Australia Day.
As part of the morning’s proceedings, the Bush Fire Brigade Service Awards Ceremony recognised two outstanding individuals for their dedication to community safety. Mr Geoff Ballard was presented with the prestigious 30-Year Long Service Medal, honouring his three decades of commitment to the brigade. Ms Tanya Hansen received the 5-Year Service Medal in recognition of her valuable contributions. Both recipients were commended for their service and unwavering dedication to protecting the community.
The Community Citizen of the Year Awards followed, celebrating the remarkable achievements of individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the Narrogin community.
The Young Citizen of the Year Award was conferred upon Ms Mia Ewen, an exemplary young leader recognised for her contributions to both Narrogin and Wickepin through her sporting achievements, student leadership, and voluntary work. As a student councillor at Narrogin Senior High School and captain of her netball team, Ms Ewen has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment to community service.
The Senior Citizen of the Year Award was awarded to Mr Colin Ward, whose dedication to the Narrogin community spans over three decades. Mr Ward’s involvement with numerous organisations, including Narrogin Revheads, the Quartermidget Youth Project, and the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association, reflects his longstanding commitment to community development. His selfless support of vulnerable individuals and newcomers to the area exemplifies the highest standards of civic responsibility.
The Active Citizenship (Group or Event) Award was bestowed upon Divine You, a vital community organisation providing emergency food relief, temporary accommodation for women, and compassionate care for the elderly and those facing end-of-life challenges. Their steadfast dedication to supporting and empowering those in need has made a profound impact on the Narrogin community.
The prestigious Community Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Mrs Vicki Chadwick, whose outstanding contributions to the Shire over many years have been exemplary. Mrs Chadwick has held numerous leadership roles, including President of the Narrogin & Districts Netball Association, President and Secretary of the Narrogin Agricultural Society, President and Secretary of the Stud Breeders Association. Her long-standing service to the Narrogin Agricultural Society, as well as her broader voluntary commitments, have significantly enriched the community. Mrs Chadwick’s tireless dedication, leadership, and ability to inspire others make her a deserving recipient of this esteemed accolade.
The Shire President Leigh Ballard extended heartfelt congratulations to all award recipients and expressed gratitude to the community for their active participation in the Australia Day celebrations.
